About two months in, I gave up on photographing butterflies but kept on photographing birds. Since then, I&#8217;ve kept track of this hobby more meticulously that I normally would.<\/p>\n<p>Today marks the first year of this endevour for me. What have I accomplished so far:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Discovered and photographed 2 new species of escapee birds (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5343083434\/in\/set-72157625791812242\/\">White-rumped Seedeater<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5417738541\/in\/set-72157625980527344\/\">Crimson-rumped Waxbill<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>First to photograph in the wild a new species of escapee bird (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5621336307\/in\/set-72157626281086081\/\">Black-and-white Mannikin<\/a>), that was first discovered elsewhere captured for ringing purposes.<\/li>\n<li>Discovered a flock of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5319960396\/in\/set-72157625378045161\">Yellow-fronted Canaries<\/a> (another escapee bird) that in the past have only been found singly.<\/li>\n<li>Explored and popularized a patch of land called Punggol Mini Grassland near Punggol East Road<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>First among my group to photograph the following uncommon birds:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A flock of 3 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5418755136\/in\/set-72157625981570012\">Jerdon Bazas<\/a>, a rare migrant to our shores (Lorong Halus).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5220895494\/in\/set-72157625503483320\">Sooty-headed Bulbul<\/a>s flock (Punggol East)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5178516800\/in\/set-72157625674669593\">Black Swan cygnets<\/a> (Singapore Botanic Garden)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5609088007\/in\/set-72157625736435250\">Little Grebes fledglings<\/a> (Lorong Halus)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5522299583\/in\/set-72157626134349302\">Plaintive Cuckoos<\/a> (Lorong Halus and Tuas Grassland)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fryap\/5522889470\/in\/set-72157626256201778\">Male Banded Bay Cuckoo<\/a> (Lorong Halus)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Photos and articles in Bird Ecology Study Group blog:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2011\/04\/28\/lineated-barbet-feeding-chick\/\">Lineated Barbet Feeding Chick<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2011\/04\/12\/black-and-white-mannikin-spotted\/\">Black-and-white Mannikin Spotted<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2011\/02\/16\/crimson-rumped-waxbill-another-exotic-canary\/\">Crimson-Rumped Waxbill, Another Exotic Canary<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2011\/01\/27\/yellow-fronted-canary-and-white-rumped-seedeater-spotted\/\">Yellow-fronted Canary and White-rumped Seedeater Spotted<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2010\/12\/03\/long-tailed-shrikes-and-fledglings\/\">Long-tailed Shrike and Fledglings<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.besgroup.org\/2010\/09\/29\/collared-kingfisher-catches-a-froglet\/\">Collared Kingfisher Catches A Froglet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>My bird count stands at 170 identified non-captive birds photographed in Singapore, and 23 for birds captured in Fraser&#8217;s Hill bringing a total of 193.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 29 April 2010, I bought a 300mm lens to try out for birds and butterflies photography.
